    Antalya – Elmalı - Korkuteli – Manavgat - İbradı – Akseki

    Antalya is among the most popular tourist attractions in the world. There are several good reasons for this: the turquoise sea, the golden sand, its long history, its countless natural beauties... Antalya also has an incredibly rich gastronomy culture. Hundreds of years of culinary tradition and the rich local soil are combined with modern approaches in this Mediterranean city. Let's explore Antalya’s cuisine together!

    You can start with a delicious breakfast rich in vitamin C at the city center of Antalya. Antalya is an important agricultural center. Citrus plants such as the Finike orange, which has geographical indication protection, and other high-quality vegetables are grown here. Excellent choices to adorn your breakfast table are local tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, fresh orange juice, and the numerous kinds of Aegean herbs.

    Piyaz is a typical white bean salad identified with Antalya. Its main ingredient is haricot beans that are accompanied by onion, parsley, pepper, tomato, tahini, lemon, garlic and a generous amount of olive oil. It can be served with a boiled egg and black olives if you like.

    Like in the rest of Anatolia, pastry products are a staple in Antalya. Serpme börek is a very good choice for anyone who loves pastries. Or, perhaps, you crave something sweet? Antalya-style Arap kadayıf is one of the most delicious syrupy desserts you can taste in Antalya.

    If you find yourself at the city center, do not leave without visiting Hadrian's Gate and the historical Kaleiçi (Inner Castle).

    We leave the city center and head west. Now, we are in Elmalı, at the foothills of the Toros Mountains. The fresh and delicious apples that are grown in the region are the perfect snack. Boiled sweet corn is another great choice to appease hunger.

    Arapaşı soup can be found prepared in various styles across Anatolia. A very delicious variation awaits you in Elmalı. You can end your meal with an amazing dessert made of cheese named höşmerim.

    Elmalı is a very old settlement. The Lycians once lived in this region and today you can visit the ruins of ancient houses and a granary from their times.

    Korkuteli is on the northeast of Elmalı, located at the foothills of the Toros Mountains. This district is the ideal place to taste yanık, an ice cream made of burnt goat milk. Termessos, one of the best-preserved ancient cities of Antalya, is located just a few kilometers east of Korkuteli.

    Next, we head east of Antalya. Here, it is a must to taste grouper in Manavgat. Grouper lives in the Mediterranean Sea, and is cooked in salt to preserve its nutrients. It might well be the most tender, tasty fish you'll ever taste! Manavgat Waterfalls deserve a visit - you are guaranteed to leave feeling refreshed.

    Next stop is İbradı, north of Manavgat. İbradı is also located at the foothills of the Toros Mountains. Goat milk and yoğurt form the bases of the regional cuisine. The incredibly tasty kuzugöbeği (morel mushroom) that grow in the region are also used in a lot of local dishes.

    Our last stop is Akseki. We're a bit further east now. In the past, indigenous nomads named Yörük used to live in Akseki and traces of their cuisine can still be found here such as yörük tarhana and oğlak tandır (kid goat meat cooked in a tandoor oven for long hours). Tarhana is a traditional instant soup powder, prepared by drying a fermented mixture of grain and yoğurt with various herbs and spices. It can be found in various regions in Anatolia and is used to make a nutritious, delicious soup.
